It’s
clear that Philadelphia has an Affordable Housing Crisis that endangers the
strength of our neighborhoods and the growth of our city.
Councilman Clarke’s legislation does nothing to address this crisis.
- Clarke’s legislation
will not help homeowners who cannot afford to repair their homes
- The city’s
home repair program has money to serve fewer than one in ten
homeowners who qualify
- Clarke’s legislation
will not help families losing their homes and moving into shelters
- Taxpayers
spent $31 million on shelter and services to homeless people last year –
3 times what is spent to
create permanent, affordable rental housing
- Clarke’s legislation
will not help disabled people moving unnecessarily to nursing homes
- 65,000
of the city’s disabled have “high priority housing needs” yet there are
only 2,138 subsidized and accessible units in the City
- Clarke’s legislation
will not help the vast majority of Philadelphia homeowners or renters.
- The median
income for a family of four in Philadelphia is $33,229, yet his
legislation targets people who earn up to $90,000 per year
